Papatuanuku reading group

Today our reading group read a story called "Das Piano" by Bernard Beckett.

We had to read carefully stopping at the full stops and pausing at the commas.

"we did this so that we slow down when we read" Cooper Nichols

"We need to make sure the story makes sense by using the punctuation"  Connor

After we read the story we had to create a padlet about it.  Here is Leah's padlet.

rotational symmetry for maths

 WAL what rotational symmetry is.

We created colourful shapes that were rotated 4 times.

A shape has rotational symmetry when it can be rotated and it still looks the same. The order of rotational symmetry of a shape is the number of times it can be rotated around a full circle and still look the same.

Hungry Hens

Today we read the activity of how to make a hungry hen.  (well it was actually a rooster because it has a comb).

We made a hungry hen out of plates, feathers, coloured paper, a stapler, glue and felts.

Liam said it was fun to make the hen.  Eli said it was excellent, Luke wanted to know how to cut out the comb, it was really hard.  Bayden thought it was great.

Wetlands workout with Nikau

On Friday Totara and Niaku class went down to the wetlands, after we crossed the dangerous road we walked through the gates and we found leaves and the older kids wiped peanut butter onto the leaves.

After that Mr Pickard put us into groups with Nikau class.  Next we walked in our groups to find the traps.  We peeked into the traps but unfortunately there was nothing to be found.   Cory's group found a dead rat next to their trap.    We baited the traps with the peanut butter that was on the leaves.  Hopefully they catch some pests for next time.

Later we walked to the adventure tree, and Nikau told us of their plans for their project the want in the wetlands.  The next job was to pick up all the branches and drag them into a big bonfire pile.  We are hoping to burn this pile of tree rubbish with Nikau class.

First days of Totara class 2021

On the first day of 2021,      "it was just like a fun day to get everything sorted.  Then the teacher gave us a challenge to work together" - Cooper Nichols

"First we had to make a newspaper line as long as the classroom by using sellotape, staples or glue stick." -Bella

"The next day we had to stick the ends together to make a circle, then the class went to the hall" - Amiria.

"Then we had to hop in the middle of the tyres/tracks and we to walk carefully inside so they wouldn't break."  - Xavier

The challenge was easy and tricky.
